🎯 Purpose of the Job
The Senior Accountant is the operational lead of the accounting function. You will ensure the integrity of the group’s financial reporting, maintain rigorous statutory compliance, and manage the daily cash flow to support business operations. This role is a blend of technical accounting, strategic budgeting, and team leadership.
🔑 Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Management Accounts: Compile monthly group, divisional, and departmental management accounts.
- Operational Reporting: Draft analytical reports and business unit operational summaries to guide senior management decision-making.
- Audit Readiness: Maintain up-to-date working papers to support all ledger figures and collaborate with internal/external auditors.
Compliance & Taxation
- Statutory Returns: Prepare and submit Income Tax, PAYE, UIF, VAT, and Workmen’s Compensation in strict adherence to South African legislation.
- Control Systems: Establish and monitor accounting control procedures to resolve discrepancies and irregularities.
Cash Flow & Budgeting
- Cash Planning: Manage the daily receipts, loading, and releasing of payments. Provide daily cash flow reports to the CFO and Financial Manager.
- Budget Consolidation: Receive all departmental inputs and consolidate them into a comprehensive total group budget.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Team Management: Mentor and coach subordinates, evaluate performance, and assist the accounting team with technical financial queries.
- Collaboration: Maintain a strong working relationship with the CFO, FM, and Credit Control departments.
✅ Minimum Requirements (Non-Negotiable)
- Education: BCom Degree with completed Articles or an equivalent professional Accounting degree.
- Experience: 5–10 years of relevant experience in a senior accounting or finance role.
- Technical Skills: * Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (complex modeling/reporting).
- Experience with ERP systems and banking platforms.
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of auditing practices, economic principles, and applicable tax laws.
