Role Purpose

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for vigilant and professional Security Guards to join our Pretoria team. You will be responsible for rendering security services in accordance with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act (PSIRA). Your primary goal is to safeguard Dis-Chem assets, property, and personnel by maintaining a high-visibility presence, identifying potential criminal activity, and responding decisively to disturbances.


Key Responsibilities

Asset Protection & Vigilance

  • Active Surveillance: Conduct regular, random patrols of the premises to deter theft, damage, and personal injury.
  • Incident Management: Investigate disturbances and report signs of unlawful entry or damage to management immediately.
  • Proactive Deterrence: Maintain a clearly visible presence to discourage dishonest acts and ensure a safe environment for customers and staff.
  • After-Hours Security: Monitor alarm systems and CCTV; perform ongoing surveillance during night shifts or solo deployments to prevent unauthorized access.

Access & Compliance Control

  • Entry Regulation: Monitor vehicle and pedestrian access points, ensuring only authorized individuals enter the site.
  • Search Procedures: Conduct daily personnel frisking and searches of staff, suppliers, and merchandisers.
  • Vehicle Inspections: Perform thorough and proper vehicle searches throughout the day.
  • Stock Security: Supervise refuse removal and verify staff purchases/goods declared to minimize loss.
  • Administrative Accuracy: Maintain and complete all registers, occurrence books (OB), and take accurate notes of daily activities.

Safety & Emergency Response

  • Emergency Assistance: Provide immediate aid during crises by alerting first responders, clinic sisters, or managers.
  • Evacuation Leadership: Maintain order during evacuation procedures, preventing panic and ensuring everyone reaches assembly points safely.
  • Operational Checks: Ensure all doors/windows are locked at end-of-day and all water taps are turned off.

What You Need to Succeed

Essential Requirements

  • Education: Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate.
  • Accreditation: Grade C PSIRA accreditation (must be currently registered).
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ security experience in a retail environment (e.g., shopping malls, warehouses, or large retail stores).
  • Skills: Strong command of English (Read, Write, Speak). Basic knowledge of Fire Emergencies and Health & Safety protocols.
  • Background: South African Citizen with clear criminal and credit records (MIE clearing).

Advantageous Qualities

  • Proficiency in a third language.
  • Valid Driver’s License and own reliable transport (PDP is an advantage if deployed as a driver).
