Role Purpose
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a vigilant and professional Security Guard to join our Cape Town team. You will be responsible for rendering a comprehensive security service in accordance with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act (PSIRA). Your primary goal is to protect assets, property, and staff by creating a safe environment, identifying criminal activity, and maintaining order through proactive patrols and expert access control.
Key Responsibilities
Vigilance & Asset Protection
- Active Surveillance: Conduct regular, random patrols of the premises to maintain high visibility and deter criminal activity.
- Incident Response: Quickly interpret suspicious behavior and act according to Dis-Chem SOPs. Respond correctly to crises, including theft, medical emergencies, or fire.
- Reporting: Maintain an accurate Occurrence Book (OB). Submit detailed written reports of unusual incidents or security breaches to management and law enforcement when necessary.
Access & Stock Control
- Personnel Searching: Conduct daily personnel frisking and searches of staff, suppliers, and merchandisers.
- Vehicle Inspections: Perform thorough vehicle searches at entry/exit points throughout the day.
- Stock Security: Verify staff purchases and ensure all “goods declared” are correctly processed. Supervise refuse removal to prevent stock loss.
- Opening/Closing: Be present and vigilant during store opening and closing procedures, ensuring all doors, windows, and taps are secured.
Emergency & Safety Leadership
- Systems Monitoring: Monitor alarm systems and CCTV cameras to detect unauthorized access.
- Evacuation Support: Maintain order during evacuation procedures, providing clear directions to ensure the safety of lives and property.
- Emergency Coordination: Alert first responders, clinic sisters, or managers immediately during a crisis or medical emergency.
Customer & Team Relations
- Professional Conduct: Be approachable, friendly, and helpful to guests, customers, and employees while maintaining a position of authority.
- Advice: Provide ongoing security tips and safety warnings to staff to ensure all precautions are adhered to.
What You Need to Succeed
Essential Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 (Matric) or a Senior Certificate.
- Accreditation: Active Grade C PSIRA accreditation is mandatory.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ security exposure in the retail industry (e.g., shopping malls or warehouses).
- Skills: Strong command of English (Read, Write, Speak). Basic knowledge of Fire Emergency and Health & Safety protocols.
- Background: South African citizen with clear criminal and credit records.
Advantageous Qualities
- At least 1 year of experience in a specific retail security role.
- Proficiency in a third language.
- Valid Driver’s License and own reliable transport (PDP is an advantage).
