Role Purpose
First Technology is looking for a high-level Onsite Desktop Engineer to be based at a key client site in Prospecton. This is not a standard entry-level role; you will serve as the senior technical escalation point for incidents that lower-tiered engineers cannot resolve. We need a professional who combines deep technical knowledge of the Microsoft ecosystem with the leadership ability to mentor junior staff and draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Technical Proficiencies
Senior-Level Expertise (Required)
- Endpoints: Expert-level management of Microsoft Windows for Endpoints.
- Productivity: Advanced support for Microsoft Office and the full Office 365 Suite.
- Hardware: Comprehensive understanding of Desktop and Laptop hardware fundamentals.
Mid-Level Knowledge
- Identity Management: Strong understanding of Microsoft Active Directory (On-Premise).
- Security: Proficiency in Mimecast and various Anti-Virus solutions.
Foundational/Entry-Level Knowledge
- Cloud & Networking: Familiarity with Azure AD, Group Policy, and LAN/WAN fundamentals.
- Infrastructure: Basic diagnostics for Firewalls, Switches, Access Points, and Routers.
- 3rd Party Apps: Exposure to Sage, M-Files, Exclaimer, and Code 2.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Technical Escalation: Resolve complex hardware and software incidents escalated from lower-tier engineers.
- Mentorship: Act as a technical mentor to junior staff, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing.
- Documentation: Write clear Work Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for common and complex technical tasks.
- Service Desk Discipline: Manage assigned tickets within a Service Desk application, ensuring SLA compliance and proactive client communication.
- Operations Support: Assist Operations Managers with technical queries and be available for unscheduled overtime if critical systems fail.
What You Need to Succeed
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 (Matric) and a minimum of 2–3+ years of experience in a similar technical support role.
- Certifications: A+ and N+ are required.
- Mobility: Ability to work onsite in Prospecton, Durban.
Advantageous Qualities
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate.
- Degree/Diploma: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or IT Diploma.
