🎯 Purpose of the Job
This is not a standard desk job; it is a high-level technical support role. You will act as the “technical backbone” of the Pinetown branch, translating complex engineering requirements into accurate sales solutions. You will specialize in pumps, compressors, and valves, serving sectors like food & beverage, automotive, and chemical processing.
🔑 Key Responsibilities
Technical Sales & Specification
- Technical Enquiries: Assist customers with complex queries regarding pump fit, performance, and application.
- Competitor Cross-Referencing: Analyze competitor pump models and specify equivalent company products that meet the customer’s needs.
- Blueprint Literacy: Must be able to read and interpret pump performance graphs, bills of materials (BOM), and technical drawings.
- Proposal Development: Prepare detailed system proposals, including quotes for spares, repairs, field services, and full systems.
End-to-End Sales Coordination
- Process Management: Manage the sales lifecycle from the initial enquiry through to successful delivery and payment.
- Lead Generation: Proactively uncover new business opportunities via research and value-added upselling to existing clients.
- Support: Act as the primary link for the Branch Manager and external sales team while they are on the road.
Stock & Warehouse Management
- Inventory Control: Manage all Durban-based stock, perform weekly cycle counts, and coordinate incoming/outgoing shipments.
- MRP Logistics: Order stock based on MRP (Material Requirements Planning) levels from Head Office.
Branch Administration
- Finance: Retrieve supplier quotes, process purchase orders (POs), and assist with debtors’ reports and payment collections.
- Lean Development: Assist in maintaining Health & Safety standards and driving “Lean” business improvements.
✅ Minimum Requirements (Non-Negotiable)
- Education: Post-matric Engineering qualification (ND/BTech/BEng in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering).
- Experience: * Minimum 2 years in a technical internal sales role.
- Specific experience in the technical industry (Pumps, Compressors, or Valves).
- Skills: Strong administrative ability and high accuracy when working with complex numerical data.
Advantageous Traits
