Purpose of the Job

Based at the Greif site in Vanderbijlpark, the General Worker is responsible for the upkeep, safety, and operational flow of the premises. This is a physically demanding role that requires a self-motivated individual who can maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety without constant supervision. You will be an essential part of the consumer logistics chain, ensuring the environment is conducive to high-quality industrial operations.


Key Responsibilities

Housekeeping & Maintenance

  • Premises Care: Execute thorough cleaning of the industrial premises and maintaining the surrounding environment.
  • Repairs: Proactively identify and notify building management of any necessary repairs or maintenance issues.
  • Environment: Perform general housekeeping tasks to ensure a clutter-free and professional workspace.

Safety & Operational Support

  • Safety Adherence: Ensure all safety requirements and protocols are strictly followed to prevent workplace injuries.
  • Manual Labor: Handle heavy equipment and machinery used for cleaning and maintenance.
  • Task Management: Identify and complete necessary tasks independently, ensuring a high level of organizational efficiency.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Grade 12 (Matric) or NQF Level 4.
  • Physical Fitness: * Medically fit and able to walk, bend, push, pull, and lift repetitively during shift hours.
    • Ability to handle heavy machinery and cleaning equipment.
  • Transportation: Must have own reliable transport to and from the site (essential for shift work).
  • Integrity: Clean criminal record and a history of reliability.
  • Availability: Prepared to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required by the operational cycle.

Skills and Competencies

  • Self-Motivation: Ability to identify work that needs to be done and complete it without direct supervision.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
