🎯 Purpose of the Job
Reporting to the Material Controller, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a forklift (B3) within the mine’s supply chain hub. This role combines heavy equipment operation with essential Storeman duties, ensuring that chrome ore production materials are safely off-loaded, sorted, and stacked according to strict Mine Health and Safety standards.
🔑 Key Responsibilities
Forklift Operations & Safety
- Safe Handling: Load, transport, and off-load materials (pallets, bins, holders) ensuring all items are secured before movement.
- Pre-use Inspections: Complete mandatory safety checklists at the start of every shift; report any mechanical defects to the Engineering department immediately.
- Maintenance: Perform daily first-line maintenance and cleaning of the machinery according to the prescribed maintenance schedule.
- Fuel Management: Accurately record and submit diesel readings for the machinery.
Stores & Yard Management
- Sorting & Stacking: Ensure all off-loaded materials are sorted safely and stacked in designated areas to prevent damage or accidents.
- Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and hazard-free yard and warehouse environment.
- Logistics Admin: Collect and return keys to the Engineering department daily, ensuring accurate sign-out/sign-in records.
Compliance
- Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and specified mechanical limits to maximize the work life of the equipment.
✅ Minimum Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 / Standard 10 Certificate.
- Licensing: * Valid Forklift License.
- Valid Code 08 (B) Driver’s License.
- Experience: * Minimum 1 year of practical Forklift driving experience.
- Minimum 1 year of practical Storeman experience.
- Medical: Must be able to be certified medically fit as per the Mine Health and Safety Act.
