🎯 Purpose of the Job
The Fleet Controller is the “nerve center” of the logistics operation. You are responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient movement of tipper trucks between loading points and mines. This role requires a professional who understands the unique pressures of bulk transport, including payload management and strict adherence to mine safety rules.
🔑 Key Responsibilities
Dispatch & Live Tracking
- Live Monitoring: Use systems like MiX, Ctrack, or Trackmatic to track truck movement, speed, and adherence to designated routes.
- Geofencing: Enforce “no-go zones” and ensure trucks remain within approved corridors to maintain safety and efficiency.
- Scheduling: Dispatch tipper trucks daily to meet client requirements at various loading points and mines.
Compliance & Load Management
- Weighbridge Oversight: Oversee weighbridge slips to ensure load accuracy. You must prevent overloading to maintain RTMS (Road Transport Management System) compliance.
- Site Rules: Enforce strict adherence to mine-specific rules and South African road compliance (mass limits and safety standards).
- Documentation: Manage all trip sheets, load certificates, and delivery documentation.
Driver & Asset Management
- Driver Conduct: Manage driver behavior, shift rotations, and enforcement of company policies.
- Maintenance Coordination: Handle the logistics of breakdowns, tyre replacements, and coordinating with the workshop for scheduled services.
- Problem Solving: Act as the first point of contact for incidents on the road or at loading sites.
✅ Minimum Requirements
Non-Negotiable (Must Have)
- Industry Experience: Minimum 2+ years’ experience specifically in the tipper transport industry.
- Education: Matric (Grade 12).
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of mass limits, RTMS, and mine site safety protocols.
- Systems: Hands-on experience with tracking platforms (MiX, Ctrack, Trackmatic, or Icam).
Operational Requirements
- Shifts: Must be able and willing to work shift cycles in a 24/7 logistics environment.
- Communication: Strong ability to liaise between drivers, clients, and mine managers.
