Role Purpose

As a Senior Cashier at Dis-Chem Optenhorst, you are a vital anchor of our customer service team. You will support the Point of Sale (POS) environment by ensuring every transaction is handled with “zero-tolerance” accuracy. This role requires a seasoned retail professional who can eliminate fraud risk, manage complex loyalty integrations, and deliver a world-class shopping experience through our 5-Star Communication Principles.

Key Responsibilities

Expert Transaction Management

• POS Excellence: Receive and process all payment types (Cash, Bank Cards, Vouchers, and Coupons) using the Dis-Chem operating system.
• Loyalty Ecosystem: Expertly process loyalty cards from our accelerator partners, including Discovery Health Care, eBucks, ABSA Rewards, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, and Medihelp.
• Financial Accountability: Take full responsibility for cash flow, ensuring all money is kept securely in the till and placed in the drop safe according to SOPs.
• Authorized Adjustments: Facilitate merchandise exchanges and returns; ensure all line voids and price changes are authorized and signed off by a supervisor.

Security & Fraud Mitigation

• Access Control: Maintain strict confidentiality of your unique system codes and passwords.
• Loss Prevention: Ensure every outgoing item and prescription script is scanned and paid for.
• Surveillance: Stay alert for suspicious behavior and report security concerns to management immediately to protect store assets.

Customer Leadership

• 5-Star Service: Uphold Dis-Chem’s customer service policies to establish professional, long-term relationships with shoppers.
• Informed Assistance: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current sales, promotions, and store merchandise to resolve customer queries efficiently.
• Operational Flow: Adhere to the customer turnover hourly rate to minimize queue times and maximize service efficiency.

What You Need to Succeed

Essential Requirements

• Education: Grade 12 (Matric).
• Experience: A minimum of 3 years’ experience in high-volume retail till operations and cash register management.
• Numerical Mastery: Exceptional numerical skills and a high degree of accuracy.
• Communication: Strong command of English; the ability to speak a third local language is highly advantageous.
• Availability: Willing and able to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays.
