Job Purpose

To deliver high-impact lectures based on module specializations, preparing students for assessments while maintaining a student-centric approach. You will be responsible for tracking student progress through module pacers, identifying “at-risk” students, and collaborating with the Central Academic Team to uphold the highest standards of language education.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Academic Delivery: Facilitate engaging lectures in isiXhosa, ensuring alignment with specified module pacers and requirements.
• LMS Management: Consistently update the Learning Management System (LMS) and provide constructive feedback to students.
• Assessment & Evaluation: Prepare students for assessments and develop assessment tasks in accordance with Central Academic Team briefings.
• Student Success: Monitor student engagement and assessment submissions, escalating concerns where necessary to support “at-risk” students.
• Collaboration: Attend and contribute to academic meetings across faculties and consult with the Information Centre for resource management.
• Professional Development: Participate in set academic development interventions to improve brand teaching practices and your own professional standing.
• Results Analysis: Reflect on and analyze module results to assist the Programme Coordinator in evaluating module performance.

Minimum Requirements

• Qualifications: * Minimum of a B.Ed Honours or Honours degree in isiXhosa / Humanities / Arts / Social Science (NQF Level 8).
  • Alternatively, a Postgraduate Diploma (NQF Level 8) provided the undergraduate major included isiXhosa up to the 3rd-year level.
  • A Postgraduate Teaching Diploma (NQF 8) with isiXhosa as a didactic subject is also accepted.
• Experience:
  • 1–2 years of teaching, lecturing, or facilitation experience (specifically within the Intermediate Phase).
  • Advantageous: Prior teaching experience at a Higher Education level.

• Linguistic Expertise: Mastery of isiXhosa grammar, literature, and didactic methods.
• Technological Proficiency: Ability to work with and adapt to digitalized academic platforms.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of the South African higher education systems and regulatory framework.
• Professionalism: Deadline-orientated, able to work under pressure, and capable of strictly adhering to institutional regulations.
