🎯 Purpose of the Job
As a Mechanical Assistant, you are the right hand of the skilled artisans and technicians. You will play a vital role in the workshop by ensuring that maintenance and repair tasks on complex machinery are completed efficiently. This is a physically active role that requires a high level of alertness, a commitment to safety, and the mechanical aptitude to assist with technical repairs.
🔑 Key Outputs
Technical Support
- Artisan Assistance: Assist mechanics in performing moderate to complex maintenance and repairs on large machines and components.
- Tool Management: Maintain an expert knowledge of specialized tools; ensure the technician has the correct tools ready for use before they are needed.
- Parts Coordination: Assist the artisan in identifying, obtaining, and checking parts against job requirements to prevent delays.
Lifting & Logistics
- Physical Handling: Manually lift and move objects up to 20kg.
- Specialized Lifting: For objects heavier than 20kg, you will be responsible for using appropriate slinging and lifting equipment (cranes/jib cranes).
- Certification: You must be willing and able to obtain certification for both Forklifts and Overhead/Jib Cranes within 90 days of starting.
Safety & Housekeeping
- Facility Maintenance: Keep the workshop and equipment clean and in good working order.
- Safety Standards: Maintain an orderly workplace to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
✅ Minimum Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 (Matric).
- Skills:
- Ability to follow complex instructions under direct supervision.
- Physical fitness to handle heavy lifting and slinging.
- Advantageous:
- Relevant previous work experience in a mechanical or industrial workshop.
- A valid Code B Driver’s License.
- Mandatory Future Qualifications:
- Ability to pass Forklift Operator certification within 90 days.
- Ability to pass Overhead/Jib Crane Operator certification within 90 days.
