🎯 Purpose of the Job
In the specialized field of seed production, “Rogueing” is a critical quality control process. The primary purpose of this role is to walk through seed production fields to identify and manually remove plants that show undesirable traits, diseases, or are of a different variety. This ensures that the final seed harvested is pure and meets strict certification standards. You will act as the “eyes in the field,” ensuring that only the highest quality potato seeds progress to the storage and distribution phase.
🔑 Key Responsibilities
Field Quality Control (Rogueing)
- Identification: Distinguish between specific seed varieties by spotting subtle differences in leaf shape, color, and plant structure.
- Removal: Manually pull and remove “rogue” plants (off-types or diseased plants) from the production rows to prevent cross-contamination.
- Certification Support: Assist the Team Leader during the formal seed certification process to ensure all regulatory standards are met.
Communication & Reporting
- Progress Updates: Regularly communicate with the supervisor regarding the progress of the assigned task.
- Deviation Reporting: Escalate any deviations found in the field, whether related to crop quality, pests, or unexpected plant growth.
- Safety First: Identify and report any safety hazards or deviations within the field or the seed store environment.
✅ Requirements
- Education: Matric (Grade 12) is required.
- Experience: Previous experience working as a General Worker at a Potato Seed store is essential.
- Skills:
- High attention to detail (the ability to see small differences in plant leaves).
- Physical stamina to work in agricultural fields for full-time hours.
- Strong communication skills to report findings to the Team Leader.
