🎯 Purpose of the Role
As a General Assistant in Brights Hardware’s busy Drive-Thru Yard, you are key to keeping customer traffic moving smoothly and accurately. Your main goal is to deliver exceptional, friendly customer service to retail shoppers, contractors, and delivery/transfer drivers. By ensuring prompt, accurate product loading, excellent yard cleanliness, and exact stock counts, you will help prevent stock losses and create a seamless experience that keeps customers returning.
🔑 Key Responsibilities
Stock Handling & Loading Operations
- Vehicle Loading: Promptly and accurately load customer vehicles, delivery trucks, and inter-branch transfer vehicles with heavy hardware and building materials.
- Product Prep & Bagging: Assist in pulling stock for transfers, bagging sand and stone, and preparing building supplies for immediate dispatch.
- Stock Stacking & Care: Ensure yard stock is properly stacked, secured, and handled carefully to minimize breakages and damage.
Inventory & Loss Prevention
- Stock Verification: Numerically count stock accurately during loading to prevent dispatch discrepancies or loss.
- Reporting Discrepancies: Report any stock shortages, damaged items, or breakages immediately to yard management.
- Stocktakes: Actively participate in routine and perpetual stock counts to maintain accurate system inventory levels.
Yard Housekeeping & Customer Service
- Customer Interaction: Greet shoppers warmly, share basic hardware product knowledge, and deliver helpful, professional service.
- Good Housekeeping: Keep the drive-thru yard clean, tidy, and safe by sweeping pathways, organizing bays, and clearing debris.
- Delegated Tasks: Execute additional operational duties as assigned by yard supervisors and branch management.
✅ Job Requirements
- Education: Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in a similar role (hardware, timber, building supplies, or warehouse yard preferred).
- Physical Capability: High level of physical fitness, strength, and stamina to handle heavy lifting and manual labor continuously outdoors.
- Numeracy & Accuracy: Strong ability to numerically count stock items accurately under busy conditions.
