🎯 Purpose of the Job
The Tyre & Mechanical Assistant provides essential support to the workshop by handling mechanical repairs, vehicle services, and comprehensive tyre maintenance. You will be responsible for ensuring fleet safety through tyre surveys and torque checks, attending to off-site breakdowns, and maintaining the cleanliness of the fleet via the washbay.
🔑 Key Responsibilities
🛞 Tyre Maintenance & Surveys
- Technical Tasks: Strip and fit tyres, maintain correct pressures, and ensure all wheel nuts are torqued to specification.
- Inspections: Conduct regular tyre surveys to identify smooth tyres or damage, and complete the necessary tyre change slips.
- Stock Management: Assist in maintaining and controlling tyre stock and tools within the tyre bay.
🛠️ Mechanical & Workshop Assistance
- Repair Support: Assist mechanics with general repairs, scheduled services, and maintenance functions.
- Documentation: Complete job cards, service schedules, and parts listings as required.
- Breakdowns: Drive to various sites to attend to both mechanical and tyre-related roadside breakdowns.
🧽 Washbay & Housekeeping
- Vehicle Cleaning: Ensure all vehicles are thoroughly washed and cleaned before leaving the depot.
- Workplace Standards: Maintain high housekeeping standards in the workshop, parts store, and tyre store.
- Safety: Adhere to Health and Safety regulations and company Standard Operating Procedures regarding dress code and tool maintenance.
✅ Minimum Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 (Matric).
- Experience: Proven experience in both mechanical and tyre maintenance environments.
- Driver’s License: Required to attend to off-site breakdowns.
🧠 Skills Required
- Hazard Identification: Ability to identify workplace hazards and handle them under guidance.
- Health & Safety: Basic knowledge and application of H&S procedures relevant to a workshop environment.
