Role Purpose
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a professional and accurate Cashier to join our Sea Point team. As the face of our checkout experience, you will ensure a world-class shopping journey by processing transactions with high precision and zero tolerance for inaccuracies. You will play a key role in fraud prevention while managing complex loyalty integrations for our valued customers.
Key Responsibilities
Transactional Excellence
- Point of Sale (POS): Efficiently record and process all customer transactions using the Dis-Chem operating system.
- Payment Processing: Handle cash, bank cards, vouchers, and coupons; ensure all payments are processed according to company SOPs.
- Loyalty & Rewards: Process loyalty cards for all accelerator partners, including Discovery Health Care, eBucks, ABSA Rewards, Momentum Multiply, and Medihelp.
- Adjustments: Manage authorized exchanges and returns; ensure all line voids and price changes are approved and signed off by a supervisor.
Financial Security & Risk Management
- Cash Accountability: Responsible for daily cash flow, including regular drop-safe deposits and the secure management of the till drawer.
- Fraud Prevention: Ensure every item and prescription script is scanned; report suspicious behavior to management immediately.
- Code Integrity: Maintain strict security over your unique system codes and passwords.
Customer Experience
- 5-Star Communication: Uphold Dis-Chem’s communication principles to build professional relationships with shoppers.
- Store Knowledge: Be aware of current sales, promotions, and store merchandise to assist with customer queries.
- Efficiency: Adhere to the hourly customer turnover rate to ensure minimal wait times for shoppers.
What You Need to Succeed
Essential Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 (Matric).
- Experience: A minimum of 6 months’ experience in cashier or till operations.
- Numeracy: Sound numerical skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Communication: Strong command of English; the ability to speak a third local language is highly advantageous.
- Availability: Willing and able to work flexible retail hours (weekends and public holidays).
