Purpose of the Role
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the operational efficiency, safety, and quality of our production equipment and facilities. This role requires a blend of hands-on technical troubleshooting, administrative data management via CMMS, and the mentorship of junior team members to minimize downtime and drive continuous improvement.
Key Areas of Impact
1. Maintenance Strategy & Execution
- Proactive Oversight: Identify potential plant issues before they impact production; conduct routine machinery checks via the DMS system.
- Operational Maintenance: Perform preventative and corrective maintenance to meet site KPIs in safety, quality, and productivity.
- Contractor Liaison: Manage external contractors, request quotes, and issue necessary Permits to Work.
- SOP Development: Create and update machine operating and maintenance SOPs in collaboration with production teams.
2. Technical Leadership & Mentorship
- Team Support: Provide high-level technical guidance to the maintenance team and on-site apprentices.
- Skills Development: Identify training needs for subordinates, mentor apprentices, and accurately sign off on required logbooks.
- Standards: Ensure all completed work meets the company’s high standards for craftsmanship and safety.
3. Data Management & Administration
- CMMS/DMS Accuracy: Maintain meticulous records of maintenance activities, ensuring all data is updated and analyzed for performance trends.
- Resource Planning: Manage equipment resources and generate Purchase Orders (PO) for critical parts and services.
- Inventory Control: Conduct monthly stock takes of critical spare parts to ensure immediate availability for machine repairs.
What You Need to Succeed
Experience & Qualifications
- Artisan Status: Qualified Millwright or Fitter (Trade Test) is essential.
- Education: Grade 12 (Matric).
- FMCG Background: Proven experience in a fast-moving consumer goods manufacturing environment.
- Technical Mastery:
- Mechanical & Pneumatic systems repair.
- Electrical wiring and basic electronics.
- Fitting and Basic Argon Gas Welding.
- System Knowledge: Proficient in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS/DMS).
Required Knowledge & Skills
- Safety & Compliance: Familiar with OSHA regulations and the safe handling of hazardous materials (Hazmat).
- Facility Basics: Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and general electrical systems.
- Digital Literacy: Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Physical Capability: Ability to lift and carry up to 25kg.
