๐ŸŽฏ Purpose of the Role

As a Pharmacist at Dis-Chem Castle Gate, you are the custodian of patient safety and pharmaceutical excellence. You will manage the end-to-end dispensing process, provide expert clinical advice, and ensure that the dispensary operates within the strict legal framework of the SAPC. This role requires a balance of high-level clinical accuracy, administrative discipline, and a leadership-by-example approach to supervising interns and assistants.


๐Ÿ”‘ Key Responsibilities

Pharmaceutical Care & Dispensing

  • Script Accuracy: Interpret, capture, and verify scripts. Ensure precise picking, packing, and labeling while monitoring for drug interactions and correct dosages.
  • Accountability: Check and sign off all prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns, accepting full legal accountability for correctness (GPP standards).
  • Clinical Advice: Provide “Pharmacist-Initiated Therapy” and advise patients on the correct use of medication and disease management.
  • Compounding: Supervise or perform the manipulation and preparation of scheduled substances.

Patient & Medical Aid Relations

  • Financial Assistance: Explain medical aid costs and procedures; process claims and resolve rejected scripts immediately.
  • Chronic Management: Ensure authorization for specialized medication (Chronic, HIV/AIDS, and Oncology).
  • Service Excellence: Advise patients at the self-medication and front-shop counters, following through on all customer promises.

Stock & Operations

  • Inventory Control: Report low stock levels, manage stock errors, and facilitate bi-annual stock takes.
  • Supervision: Assist the Dispensary Manager with administrative tasks and training of junior staff.
  • Compliance: Maintain accurate registers and customer profiles on the Unisolv/Vexall systems.

โœ… Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Grade 12 (Matric) and a BPharm Degree (or equivalent).
  • Registration: Active registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
  • Experience: * 2โ€“3 years in a Pharmaceutical environment.
    • 2โ€“3 years of Retail Pharmacy experience (including Student/Internship years).
  • Systems: Computer literate in MS Office.

Advantageous Extra Skills:

  • Experience with Unisolv, SAP, or E-scripting.
  • FMCG/Retail background.
  • Registered Tutor with SAPC.
  • Proficiency in a third additional language.
