Opportunity Overview

Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine, a subsidiary of Assore Limited, is a world-class producer of Chrome Ore. We are looking for a disciplined and safety-conscious Fitter Aide to join our Plant Engineering team. Reporting to the Artisan Fitter, you will support the maintenance and repair of essential surface plant machinery, ensuring maximum equipment availability and operational efficiency.

Key Areas of Impact

Plant Maintenance & Mechanical Support

• Mechanical Repairs: Execute tasks such as removing and replacing pump components, pulley bearings, and steel pipe installations.
• Specialized Equipment: Assist Artisans with the overhauling of primary and secondary equipment, including crushers (adjusting gaps) and gearboxes.
• Conveyor Care: Perform patching of conveyor belts and assist with complex belt splices and greasing routines.

Safety & Risk Management

• Hazard Identification: Assist the Artisan in conducting mini risk assessments in the work area before starting any task.
• Safety Protocols: Strictly adhere to Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures to ensure a zero-harm environment during maintenance.
• Pre-Use Inspections: Operate stationary and mobile engineering equipment only after completing the mandatory pre-use inspection checklists.

Operational Excellence

• Breakdown Response: Attend to mechanical breakdowns immediately to restore plant availability and report status to the Control Room.
• Tool Management: Ensure all personal and artisan tools are clean, complete, and stored safely in the storeroom after use.
• SOP Compliance: Ensure all tools, materials, and equipment are utilized strictly according to Standard Operating Procedures.

What You Need to Succeed

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Grade 10 / Standard 8 Certificate.
• Licensing: Valid Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence.
• Medical: Ability to be certified medically fit as per the Mine Health and Safety Act 29/1996.
• Identity: Must be an EE (Employment Equity) candidate.

Advantageous Qualities

• Operative Course Certificate.
• 3 months of practical trade-related experience in a heavy industrial, mining, or plant environment.
