Role Purpose

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a meticulous and reliable Store Cleaner for a fixed-term period at our Howick on Main store. You will be the guardian of our store’s hygiene, ensuring that all areas—from the high-traffic shop floor to the clinical dispensary—meet Dis-Chem’s strict cleanliness standards. Your work ensures a safe and welcoming environment for both our staff and our customers.

Key Responsibilities

Hygiene & Maintenance

• Daily Standards: Execute a high standard of cleanliness across the shop floor, stock room, dispensary, admin offices, and canteen before the store opens.
• Routine Development: Establish and follow cleaning routines to ensure every corner of the facility is consistently maintained.
• Facility Support: Ensure restrooms and canteen areas are sanitized and fully stocked with necessary supplies (soap, paper towels, etc.) at all times.
• Reactive Cleaning: Remain available during operational hours to attend to spills or cleaning requirements immediately as they arise.

Safety & Compliance

• Chemical Safety: Ensure the correct cleaning products and specialized equipment are used for specific surfaces and tasks to prevent damage or injury.
• Hazard Management: Strictly adhere to safety protocols, such as ensuring “Wet Floor” signage is visible at both ends of a work area during floor cleaning.
• Health & Safety: Perform all duties in strict accordance with national Health and Safety Regulations.

Customer Service

• Professionalism: Maintain a presentable appearance and a friendly, professional demeanor when interacting with or assisting customers on the floor.
• Instruction Adherence: Demonstrate the ability to take clear instructions from management and follow through with attention to detail.

What You Need to Succeed

Essential Requirements

• Education: Grade 12 (Matric).
• Experience: A minimum of 6 months’ professional cleaning experience.
• Physical Fitness: The role requires significant physical activity, including walking, standing, climbing, kneeling, bending, and lifting or moving objects.
• Communication: Sound command of English; knowledge of a local area-specific language is essential.
• Availability: Willing and able to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays.

Advantageous Qualities

• Previous experience cleaning within a retail or pharmacy environment.
• Bilingualism.
