Opportunity Overview

Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine, a subsidiary of Assore Limited and a premier producer of Chrome Ore, is seeking a disciplined Fitter Aide specializing in Belt Maintenance. Reporting to the Artisan Fitter, you will be responsible for executing mechanical repairs and scheduled maintenance to ensure the reliability of the mine’s critical production equipment.

Key Areas of Impact

Mechanical Maintenance & Repairs

• Conveyor Systems: Execute specialized maintenance on conveyor belts, including greasing bearings, replacing worn idlers, and installing skirting rubbers.
• Hydraulic Equipment: Assist in the maintenance of rock breakers, including the removal and replacement of hydraulic hoses, power packs, and cylinders.
• Underground Infrastructure: Assist Artisans with chairlift maintenance (ropes, brakes, and chairs), compressor filter replacements, and the removal/installation of underground dam pumps.
• Ventilation Support: Clean fan plates and impeller pumps; replace ventilation fans to ensure safe underground airflow.

Operational Support

• Schedule Adherence: Support the maintenance team in meeting planned production schedules and attending to emergency breakdowns immediately to restore equipment availability.
• Lock-Out Procedures: Correctly perform safety lock-out procedures before commencing any mechanical work.
• Tool & Workspace Management: Ensure all tools are in safe working condition and the storeroom is organized. Ensure the work area remains clean and compliant with mine standards.

Safety & Risk Assessment

• Mini Risk Assessments: Conduct localized risk assessments for every task within your span of control.
• Reporting: Document and report all defects or status changes of tools and equipment to the Chargehand or Foreman.

What You Need to Succeed

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Grade 10 / Standard 8 Certificate.
• Licensing: Valid Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 months practical trade-related experience in a heavy industrial, plant, or mining environment.
• Medical: Must be able to be certified medically fit as per the Mine Health and Safety Act 29/1996.

Advantageous Qualities

• Possession of an Operative Course Certificate.
