Role Purpose
Dis-Chem Blaauw is looking for a versatile Front Shop Assistant to join our team on a casual basis. This hybrid role is perfect for a proactive individual who can switch between maintaining world-class merchandising standards on the floor and providing efficient, friendly service at the Point of Sale (POS). You will ensure our shelves are stocked, our displays are perfect, and our customers leave with a smile.
Key Responsibilities
Merchandising & Stock Control
- Shelf Excellence: Ensure full product ranges are neatly presented and always available.
- Inventory Integrity: Facilitate regular stock rotation (FIFO), monitor expiry dates, and identify damaged goods for immediate reporting.
- Pricing Accuracy: Ensure all displays, labels, and prices are correct; report any discrepancies to management.
- Back-of-House: Maintain an organized and tidy storeroom; assist with loading/off-loading stock and general stocktaking.
Point of Sale & Cash Handling
- Transaction Processing: Accurately handle all payments including cash, cards, vouchers, and coupons.
- Loyalty Integration: Process all loyalty cards and accelerator partner programs (Discovery, eBucks, etc.).
- Financial Security: Ensure strict cash flow management, including regular drop-safe deposits and securing till drawers.
- Returns & Voids: Process authorized exchanges and returns under the guidance of the Frontshop Leader.
Customer Experience
- Service Standards: Provide friendly, professional, and courteous advice to every shopper.
- Query Resolution: Follow up on “out-of-stock” queries timeously using the official tracking lists.
- Reporting: Effectively communicate customer feedback, compliments, and complaints to store leadership.
What You Need to Succeed
Essential Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate.
- Experience: 0–6 months of retail work experience (ideal for those starting their retail career).
- Numeracy: Fundamental arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- Mobility: Valid Driver’s license and own reliable transport are essential.
- Availability: Must be willing and able to work flexible retail hours.
Advantageous Qualities
- 1 year of retail experience or a Certificate in Retail Business Management.
- Basic computer skills (MS Office) or exposure to SAP.
