🎯 Purpose of the Job
As a General Worker within the Timber Nursery, you are responsible for the physical upkeep and operational readiness of the property. This is a practical, hands-on role that goes beyond basic labor; it requires a “jack-of-all-trades” approach to maintain irrigation systems, repair nursery infrastructure, and operate heavy machinery like tractors. You will ensure that the environment where timber crops are nurtured remains clean, functional, and safe.
🔑 Key Responsibilities
Property & Infrastructure Maintenance
- Garden & Lawn Care: Regularly cut grass and maintain all garden areas, pathways, and work zones to a high standard of tidiness.
- Technical Repairs: Maintain and repair nursery infrastructure, including irrigation pipes, tables, nets, and general equipment.
- Chemical Application: Safely and correctly spray herbicides, pesticides, or other necessary agricultural chemicals.
Operational Support
- Machinery Operation: Drive and operate a tractor and other basic maintenance equipment as required for nursery tasks.
- Logistics: Assist with the loading and offloading of trucks and general material handling.
- Equipment Care: Ensure all tools and machinery are cleaned, stored correctly, and used responsibly to prevent damage.
✅ Qualifications and Skills
- Education: Matric / Grade 12.
- Licensing: A valid Code 10 Driver’s License is required (essential for tractor and equipment operation).
- Technical Knowledge: Basic understanding of irrigation systems and general garden equipment repairs.
- Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit and capable of repetitive manual labor in various weather conditions.
- Safety: Ability to handle and apply agricultural chemicals safely and accurately.
